Did you know that the most contagious thing in the world is not a virus?
It’s your mood!!
Think back to the last time you laughed or smiled along with someone.
Or when an extremely negative person’s mood sucked all the positivity out of the room.
How you show up matters and has an incredible impact on those around you.
Research from the Greater Good Science Center shares how “cultivating an attitude of gratitude can significantly improve one's overall attitude, leading to increased happiness, better coping mechanisms with adversity, stronger relationships, and even improved physical health.” Studies demonstrate that practicing gratitude can positively impact brain function by enhancing the production of dopamine and serotonin, which are associated with feelings of well-being; essentially, actively focusing on things to be grateful for can rewire the brain towards a more positive outlook.
As we’re intentionally practicing more gratitude this month, here are three of my favorite findings on the positive impact of thankfulness in our lives:
Gratitude reduces toxic emotions (Greater Good Science Center)
Gratitude enhances your well-being (National Institute of Health)
Gratitude deepens your resilience (The Gratitude Project)
Mid-Month Attitude Check-In
How grateful have you been feeling lately?
Consider what is enhancing your gratitude more. Name these experiences, relationships, and situations here.
Now identify anything that has been blocking or limiting an attitude of gratitude. What’s been getting in your way?
What is ONE thing you can do today that will make the biggest different in the amount of gratitude you’ve been experiencing lately?
Now fast forward six months from now (start of summer 2025) and imagine how you want to feel then. How will intentionally showing more appreciation and gratitude shape your life in the season ahead?
